“We’ve Got Your Back, Babe”: Strength in Breastfeeding

There’s less than one month left of “We’ve Got Your Back, Babe,” a nationwide fitness challenge supporting the breastfeeding cause.  Loving Moments by Leading Lady is proud to be a Presenting Sponsor of this amazing event that aims to bring awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding and help eliminate prenatal “Booby Traps” that impede many new moms from breastfeeding.  Proceeds from the event benefit The Best for Babes Foundation, Breastfeeding USA and the United States Lactation Consultants Association, in partnership with one of the leading breastfeeding education websites Kellymom.com.

tip“We’ve Got Your Back, Babe” began in August during World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month.  It continues through the end of October, coinciding with Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention Month.  And rightly so – breastfeeding and the breast cancer prevention go hand-in-hand.  Breastfeeding and human milk lower the risk of the disease that plagues nearly 300,000 women in the U.S. every year and is responsible for approximately 40,000 cancer-related deaths.

During the three-month-long fitness challenge, “We’ve Got Your Back, Babe” is striving to raise awareness and funds for the breastfeeding cause through achievement personal fitness goals.  Teams may be comprised of any individuals or groups who support breastfeeding and are committed to working out and working towards fundraising goals.  There are already 22 teams and 46 individual fundraisers participating.  We want you to be next!

part spotNot sure what fitness goal is right for you?  Be creative and pick a goal that meets your interests while inspiring you to improve your fitness level and raise money for the breastfeeding cause.  Need some ideas?  We love the Burpees for Booby Traps challenge where you upload a YouTube video of yourself doing burpees, post it on your Facebook page and then tag three people who you nominate to continue the challenge.  Or try donation-based goals like Christine Jacobson, who is doing push-ups, sit-ups and running half-miles for various levels of donations.  Run, walk, bike, hike, swim, row, squat, crunch, kick.  If it gets your blood and your passion flowing, it’s worthy of being your goal.

Beyond fitness and fundraising, “We’ve Got Your Back, Babe” is dedicated to spreading information about breastfeeding and break down barriers – “Booby Traps” – that many moms meet along their way.  Celebrity hosts and chairs including Jenna Elfman, Dr. Wendy Walsh, (formerly of “The Doctors”), Kailyn Lowry (from MTV’s “Teen Mom 2”), Kelly Calway (winner of the Marine Corps Marathon 2013 and active duty solider) and Alysia Reiners (actress/producer) are a huge part of that mission.  Additionally, Kellymom.com, a leading breastfeeding support, education and advocacy website, is drawing huge attention to the cause with hundreds of thousands of page views, Facebook “likes” and Facebook “shares” of the informational posts and participant spotlights for the event.

It’s not too late for you to get involved!  Visit the Best for Babes website to start a team.  Do it for yourself.  Do it for your kids.  Do it for your grandkids.  Do it for someone who may be misinformed about breastfeeding.  Do it to support a cause that helps prevents breast cancer.  Do it so everyone has the chance to give their babies the best start in life and the potential to live a long and healthy one.  Whatever your reason, just do it!

If you do, you can be like Heather Underwood, who won the first Loving Moments by Leading Lady nursing bra wardrobe giveaway.  She will receive five bras from the Loving Moments collection valued at $200.  You could be the next winner!

We can’t wait to see your fundraising page.  Remember, “We’ve Got Your Back, Babe”!
