Preparing for Spring Cleaning

Preparing for Spring Cleaning Throw open your windows and take a deep breath—spring’s here! Now that the days are warm and sunny again, take a chance to plan ahead on some of the spring cleaning you’re bound to tackle. Wondering where to begin amid the organizing and cleaning? Follow some of our suggestions and you’ll be enjoying a clutter-free, fresh home in no time.

Before you start pulling boxes out of your closets, make a list of what projects you’d like to accomplish. Having a clear plan will help you manage your time and effort. If you keep tasks too general, like “clean the front hall closet,” you might find yourself trying to accomplish too many tasks simultaneously. Keep it simple! If you want to purge your closets, take steps to finish one task at a time.

Now that you have your list ready to go, make the most of your free time by using baby’s naptime as your cleaning time. Even if you find yourself stuck on other household chores, try to dedicate at least 15 minutes every other day to just spring cleaning while baby snoozes.

Another way to keep track of your progress is to clean one room at a time. This way, you won’t worry about missing anything you had hoped to finish and back-track. Plus, you’ll feel a small sense of accomplishment as you work your way through your house. Get the whole family in on the fun—assign rooms to your partner and kids old enough to help. If everyone contributes, you can go out to dinner or another fun activity that rewards everyone’s hard work!
